CISCRP Prepares for a Full AWARE for All Schedule this Fall

By Susannah Buzard

This fall 2016, CISCRP has a number of AWARE for All programs planned.

On October 20, CISCRP will host an AWARE for All event in Miami Florida at the downtown Hyatt Regency location from 11-2pm. Later in autumn, CISCRP is planning an AWARE event at the Laguna Woods Village in Irvine, California on November 1. Finally, in late fall AWARE for All will will be held in Baton Rouge, Louisianna.

Each event is open to the public, and expects to bring 300-350 members of the research community, patients, and the general public together to talk about clinical research. AWARE offers an opportunity for participants to be a part of panel discussions and view presentations, which provide a window into what it’s like to participate in a clinical trial. Guests also learn more about why clinical trials are important in furthering medicine, as well as guidelines for how they can make an informed decision on whether to participate. Additionally, attendees are welcome to take advantage of free health screenings that are offered by various community partners, as well as a free catered meal. At the end of each AWARE event, CISCRP holds a special ceremony that honors “Medical Heroes,” the everyday people who give their gift of participation to clinical trials, making it possible for researchers to find treatments for conditions that affect people around the world.

Ellyn Getz, CISCRP’s Senior Manager of Development, Fundraising & Events, describes AWARE for All as a chance to address the critical need for general education about the clinical research process. “Research demonstrates that the general public has very limited knowledge of how the clinical research process works, what it means to participate, and the role that clinical research plays in advancing public health. We look forward to working closely with teams in Miami, Baton Rouge and Irvine to help these diverse communities understand all of their treatment options so that they can make the best decision for themselves and their families.”

Registration is now open for the AWARE – Miami event, and will be available soon for both Baton Rouge and Irvine. Stay tuned for updates throughout the summer on the development of the fall AWARE for All series, and email awareforall@ciscrp.org for more information and to nominate your city to host one of these special events.

Please contact CISCRP if you’re interested in volunteering for an upcoming AWARE event and if you and your organization would like to make a donation to support an upcoming event (awareforall@ciscrp.org).
